We arrived on the East Coast (or as I have since been informed, the "Midatlantic States") on 30 May, picked up one of our vehicles the following day, moved in to a local hotel the next day, signed for our rental the day after, and moved out of that first dump hotel and into a much nicer hotel the day after that where we stayed for about a week. On our first drive through DC (from the airport area to the area closer to our new duty station), this is one of the really cool things we saw from our car.
That's THE CAPITOL! So cool!
And the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial.
And there is the Pentagon! I took all those pictures on one drive through the city following our GPS to our new house. I had no idea how ... accessible all these were to normal, every-day traffic!
Meanwhile, in our newest, nicest hotel (thank you, God, for helping us find that!) I caught this super cute photo of the boys at night in their bed.
Our first small shipment arrived on 11 June, allowing us to move into our rental where we "camped out" with a bunch of toys, inflatable mattresses, camp chairs and a table, and a few other necessities for almost 4 weeks until our biggest shipment arrived.
An ice cream "truck" passed through our cul-de-sac (once) and Steve had fun buying ice cream for all the kids in the neighborhood. We have a couple houses near ours with kids around the same ages as our boys. This is a first for us and we are enjoying all the "normal" neighborhood interaction.
We visited a local mall, our first in over 2 years, and, "MOM! IT'S LIKE LEGOLAND HERE!" (the mall had a Lego store). We spent QUITE a bit of time there. Super cool!
The boys helped me sew some new curtains for their room and with the scraps they made their own bags for their collectibles.
Daniel drew a picture of what he wanted his room to look like.
And the boys got summer cuts. (In other words, mom went crazy with the hair clippers she hadn't seen in 2 years and needs a little time to get used to how they cut again.)
And... That was June!
Oh, Wow! I am sooo jealous of the pictures of the Capital and monuments, etc! And Steve buying ice cream for everyone! That sounds like a Steve thing. :) The boys look so cute in that sleeping picture. Such good friends. You two have done such an amazing job of parenting and bringing them up to love and appreciate each other. Well done!!!
